When you are caring for someone, regular breaks from the physical and emotional demands put on you are essential. You need to let someone else take the responsibility for a while, have the chance to rest and also attend to your own needs. If you don’t, your quality of life and well-being starts to suffer. Many people in caring situations are on low incomes though and find it difficult to pay for replacement care, and carers often don’t have much money to spend on themselves.
If you are an unpaid carer living in East Lothian, looking after someone who is 21 or over, and you are finding it difficult to afford breaks from caring, then please contact the Centre or download the application form here – Breaks from Caring Fund – Application Form and guidance notes here – Breaks from Caring Fund Guidance Notes. Carers of East Lothian’s Breaks from Caring Fund could offer you a grant of up to £250, subject to terms and conditions.
