When you are caring for someone, regular breaks from the physical and emotional demands put on you are essential. You need to let someone else take the responsibility for a while, have the chance to rest and also attend to your own needs. If you don’t, your quality of life and well-being is likely to suffer.
We recognise that many carers are on low incomes. They cannot easily pay for replacement care or spend money on themselves.
If you are an unpaid carer living in East Lothian, looking after someone who is 21 or over, and you are finding it difficult to afford a break from caring, then please contact us on 0131 665 0135 to discuss the support available.
*** Shared Care Scotland, who administer the funding, have extended the eligibility criteria to parent carers for a time limited period. This means unpaid carers looking after a loved one who is under 21 can also apply for a Breaks from Caring grant until 31st March 2021***
Alternatively, you can download a Breaks from Caring fund Application Form with Guidance Notes to apply for a grant.
Carers of East Lothian’s Breaks from Caring Fund could offer you a grant of up to £250, subject to terms and conditions.
