On 16th January, 30 unpaid carers and former carers joined representatives from CoEL and East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership at Cockenzie House. East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership are currently working to improve the local eligibility criteria for carer support. The purpose of the event was for ELHSCP to hear directly from carers about the impact of living with a caring role.
The information gathered at the event will help the Health and Social Care Partnership to incorporate lived experience examples into the eligibility criteria. The hope is that illuminating the indicators with lived experiences will improve how the indicators are applied, supporting workers to make consistent and equitable decisions for carers.
We were pleased to be able to support unpaid carers in East Lothian to be involved in this consultation and we were thrilled that so many people generously shared their time with us. The session was held in the lovely environment of Cockenzie House and Gardens and attendees enjoyed a cream tea together.
